The aim of this survey is simple. If you know any *gender minority characters from popular animation (e.g. cartoons, anime, animated movies, etc.), type their names into the answer slots below. If you wish to include more than one animated character, please use a different answer slot for each one. Please try to only include characters that are (as far as you understand) canonically transgender or non-binary, not fan theories or head canons. The researcher understands that there are narrative gray areas and will be reviewing the responses later before creating the final sample, so don't worry about making a mistake. You are welcome to complete the survey as many times as you wish if you think of more characters that fit the criteria.

*For the purposes of this research, the term “gender minorities” will be used to refer to transgender and non-binary people, and while the majority of non-binary people in real life also identify as transgender, the context of the study makes the distinction relevant.

Disclaimer: This survey is going to be used as a basis to find a sample of gender minority characters in mainstream animation. The researcher is choosing to use a survey for this because that implies the answers will contain characters that are somewhat well-known and thus applicable to the purposes of the study. The answers from this study will be used to find a variety of characters, but the researcher will look for information about the characters given to ensure that they fit the criteria of the study. It is likely that not all answers will directly contribute to the creation of the sample. The responses will be anonymous and confidential, and no demographic information will be collected because it is irrelevant to the study.
