YAB Application
What is the YAB?
The Youth Advisory Board informs the agenda and goals of the Brownsville Anti-Violence Project. This includes presenting and executing ideas for community projects, engagement and mobilization. Youth will develop and execute an event that addresses the issue of youth gun and gang violence during the 6 month membership period.

Who can be a part of the YAB?
Any youth 14-24 years old who lives in Brownsville (11212) and has demonstrated or can communicate a dedication to ending violence in Brownsville. The will be an application and interview process. The application deadline is May, 24 2013. The first cohort will begin July, 2013.

Is the YAB a stipend program?
Yes.  Brownsville Anti-Violence Project will provide youth with a monthly stipend for the membership duration. Each stipend will be paid to the youth so long as they are in good standing as of the end date of the stipend period.
 
Where and how often does the YAB meet?
Generally, the YAB will convene at 444 Thomas S. Boyland St. Each board member will serve for 6 months and dedicated 5 hours a week split between two days a week. One day of the week youth will focus on building anti-violence projects and campaign ideas and the next day will youth focus on training workshops needed to execute project and campaign ideas. Each member will play a unique role tailored to individual personal strengths and completing project tasks.  
 
What is the mission of the YAB?
To incorporate youth’s voice in the conversation of curing violence in the community and to find ways to build youth capacity to cure violence
