Queer Ontario Meeting Technology

Queer Ontario has been using the Ustream audiostream and chatroom technology to make our meetings accessible to individuals unable to attend in-person in Toronto.  This technology is not working well for us, so we are looking for a better alternative.  In particular, we’re looking for a technology that allows every participant to contribute directly to the discussion, not rely on another person to relay what they say.

Q4. What would make it easy for you to participate in Queer Ontario meetings and online discussions?
Consider your physical abilities, language abilities, thinking style, personality, etc.  For example, "I am hearing impaired, and shy about public speaking, so text chat, email and lip-reading are easiest for me."
Q5. To participate in a meeting, how important is video to you?
In a virtual meeting, video-conferencing can show the participants who are located somewhere else. It shows who is communicating, their body language, and sign language. Video-conferencing is limited by where the camera is aimed, and by internet speed.

You could use a computer, tablet or smartphone.  Modern laptops, tablets and smartphones usually have built-in microphone, camera and speakers.  A "safe individual location" is a conveniently accessible place where you can follow and openly discuss queer issues for 2 hours.
