First, let's define mutual aid.
Mutual aid is a political framework of participation, grounded in practices of solidarity, community care, and anti-capitalism. Mutual aid, as an action, asks us to consider how our own intersecting identities impact our economic situations and how we can support one another without transactional gain or savior mentalities. It requires us to look at one another with humanity in our everyday lived experiences and struggles. At its simplest, it's community caring for community.
Now the question is: "how can I take part?"
Joining our contributor's list is one way to redistribute wealth in Boston and the Greater Boston Area. With so much accessible data telling the stories of the economic and racial wealth gaps in our city, we're at a crucial point in our history where every person in Boston has an opportunity to be real community members with each other and support/seek support from one another.
Boston has 465 years worth of deep roots in colonialism, white supremacy, imperialism, and oppression. At the same time, abolitionists, Black feminists, and many revolutionaries have brought their legacies to our city, leaving building blocks for us to continue the global fight for liberation. That global fight begins with building strong, healthy, aware, and empowered communities that are unwaveringly committed to seeking liberation in our lifetimes.
Thank you for choosing to redistribute your wealth,
