Welcome, this information sheet should help to answer some of the questions you may have regarding membership and volunteering at NAVES. Any additional questions should be directed towards the operations staff they will help to answer any questions you have.(Number at bottom)

Application:
* Please fill out the application completely anything that doesn't apply please put N/A on the line.
* Your application must have three letter of reference emailed from people who are not related to you.
* Your application must be notarized.
* All applicants must submit to a release of records for criminal background checks as well as driving records and abstracts, in the application process.
* Once application is completed you must contact squad operations desk to turn in your application.
* You must be a US citizen, and must be at least age 18 to join.
Volunteering time:
* All NAVES members are required to volunteer 12 hours per week our shifts are M-F 6PM-6AM and Sat 6AM-6PM and 6PM-6AM.
* All new members will ride as students for a minimum of 3-6 months before being registered for NJ EMT basic program.**(see state & school requirements on Pg 2)
* Students will be expected to ride while enrolled in the EMT program.
* After the student graduates from the EMT program he/she will be riding as a probationary EMT for a six month period until that individual's probationary EMT paperwork is complete and signed off by the supervising crew chief.
Commitment:
* NAVES and borough of North Arlington will be paying for your:
* physical exam,
* EMT School Education,
* Books and
* uniforms
in lieu of this you are asked to volunteer 3 full year of service as a NJ certified EMT, that’s 12 hours per week for 52 weeks per year minimum.
* If you fail to complete your years of service to NAVES you will be required to financial reimburse NAVES all expenses that your membership processing cost to the organization, including but not limited to education, books, uniforms, your physical etc.
Requirements of all members to join NAVES:
* Pass Background Check.
* Pass Physical.
* Pass Drug Screening.
* Pass N95 Respirator fit testing.

Physical requirements’ of NAVES members, First responder’s & EMT’s :
* The EMT/First Responder's must be capable of safely performing all listed duties throughout the assigned tour.
* Ability to perform during an emergency for prolonged periods of time
* Effective communications, oral and written skills. Ability to read, speak and write English. Must verbally communicate in an expeditious and clear manner with sufficient volume.
* Ability to react calmly during a crisis and perform duties in sometimes stressful situations
* Analyze and interpret difficult and complex patient care and personnel situations.
* Exerciser good judgement and sound decision making during emergency situation
* Visibility: far vision (100 Feet or more) and near vision (10 inches or less)
* Drive and emergency vehicle in compliance with all regulations and statutes during all weather conditions any time of day.
* Lift a fully loaded ambulance stretcher (weighting approximately 350 pounds between supplies/patient/stretcher/equipment) from ground level to ambulance patient compartment with placing stretcher in the ambulance with the assistance of a partner of equal strength.
* Carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment for up to half a mile on uneven ground without assistance
* Safely lift, carry, push and pull patients up to 100 pounds on own or 200 pounds with assistance.
* Standard level of standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching and grasping.
* Must be able to user computer, Communications, & radio equipment (ex Desktop PC, Laptops, I-pads, I-phones, Sonims, Portable and mobile radios).
All Members of NAVES:
* Are subjected to performance review on the following.
* 30 days 1 Month
* 60 days 2 Months
* 90 days 3 Months
* And every 6 Months thereafter or at the discretion of the operations staff.
* Online Training requirements.
* Annual required training
* Blood Born Pathogens
* Right to know Hazcom
* As per directed by operation’s staff.
* Attend monthly membership meeting’s
* Participate in fundraising activities.
* May be randomly drug tested at any time.
* Attend Classroom training
* CPR
* CEVO – Coaching the emergency vehicle operator (Ambulance)
* Stop The Bleed- Bleeding Control for first responders.
* Additional course as directed by the operations staff.
