Dear Parents/Guardians of Sixth Grade Students: Now that we have passed the midpoint of another successful school year, it is time to start the scheduling process for 2019-2020, which will enable the district to insure your child’s proper placement in our middle school music program. Therefore, I'd like to briefly outline our process for you, in addition to sharing some important information. Recently, your son/daughter met with their music teacher(s) to discuss the musical options that will be available to them next year, based on their past participation in our classroom/general music program and possibly one of our elementary performing music groups (band, orchestra and chorus.) Please note that all music students, currently performing in band, orchestra or chorus, were encouraged to continue their successful participation at the middle school level, which is a full year commitment for each child. Furthermore, those individuals who currently have the distinction of performing in two of our elementary performance organizations (called a “sharer”) were informed that they may continue in both organizations again next year at the middle school. However, it is important that you and your child understand that those students electing to continue as “sharers” will be scheduled for a 9th period. While this will not affect their participation in athletics in any way, it will require them to attend extra help sessions in the mornings instead of after school and they will only be able to attend certain clubs every other week. Lastly, those students who do not currently participate in an elementary performing group will be scheduled to continue in classroom/general music next year in order to satisfy their state music requirement.
In order to insure the best musical education and continuity for your child, please assist me by discussing your child’s musical options with him/her, being sure to inquire as to what his/her vocal or instrumental teacher suggested when they met. Then, please provide us with your requests for next year by completing the electronic submission and reviewing the contents with your child. As always, if you have any questions regarding this process, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s music teacher at school. Sincerely, Robert E. Brase Director of Fine & Performing Arts
