Share Your Opinion on the Upcoming NTT Proposal coming up for a General Faculty Vote!

Dear Fellow General Faculty Members,

Shared governance is central to our responsibility as members of Fairfield University’s General Faculty, and it is important that we all are aware of, and participate in, faculty governance in the interests of Fairfield University and its mission.

As you may or may not know, a particularly consequential vote regarding a motion to change the Faculty Handbook is coming before the General Faculty, perhaps as soon as the next General Faculty meeting on February 28th, to institute a promotional structure and expectations for Non-Tenure Track faculty. We've received many emails and questions about this.

We hope all members of the General Faculty will attend this meeting to have your voices heard and registered by your vote. For information about the proposed change to the handbook regarding NTT promotion, see the agenda packet for the General Faculty meeting from Jan. 31, 2025, in particular pp. 12-16.

We would also like to provide a forum for faculty to contribute short statements of 800 words or fewer about these changes. Please feel free to use this link and to write your opinions about the proposal, and your contribution may be anonymous or signed.

We will include as many of the statements as we can in the next newsletter; where there is significant overlap between statements, we may choose to omit a few in favor of publishing a wider range of perspectives and arguments. Please submit by Feb. 21 at midnight.
