Thank you for your interest in fostering an animal from our rescue organization.
Before proceeding with the application, please carefully consider the following points:
- Can you commit to providing a safe, loving home for an animal that might have not lived in a home environment before? Animals can exhibit different behavior in a new environment, such as a foster home, compared to their behavior in a shelter. It can sometimes take weeks for them to fully settle in. During this adjustment period, it is essential to ensure the animal is as comfortable as possible, even if it means you might experience some inconvenience.
- If you rent your accommodation, do you have permission from your landlord to keep pets? Please ensure you obtain written confirmation from your landlord and provide it along with your completed form.
- Would you be able to make arrangements for the care of your new foster animal during an emergency where you might need to be absent? Boarding kennels are often fully booked, making them an unreliable option. Additionally, moving a foster animal from one foster home to another is not ideal, as it can cause significant stress and may lead to new, unwanted behaviors due to the frequent changes.
- Have you considered the responsibilities associated with fostering, including taking the animal to the vet if the animal falls ill or strictly following a structured plan provided by a designated behaviorist?
Veterinary costs will be covered by the rescue while the animal is in foster care. However, as the foster caregiver, you are expected to contact the vet and obtain a quote before any visit, allowing the rescue to raise the necessary funds. Additionally, behaviorist assistance will be provided by one of the rescue's collaborating behaviorists at the rescue's expense. You are required to follow all instructions from the behaviorist and be available for regular calls, Zoom meetings, or in-person visits.
- Are you equipped to provide all necessary items to help your foster animal settle into its new home, such as food, toys, and a secure crate/space to decompress? These items are essential for your animal's well-being and comfort. These items will be provided at your expense.
- Are you willing to keep your dog on a lead most of the time even indoors when introducing to other animals and people? -Or- Are you willing to keep your foster cat indoors at all times, even if your resident cats are accustomed to going outside unsupervised? When introducing dogs to new animals or people for the first time, it's advisable to supervise them and keep the dog on a lead until fully familiarized and relaxed. - When accepting the responsibility of a foster cat, it is required that the cat remain indoors at all times while in foster care.
- Please note that we do not offer animals for free and you can't personally advertise the animal for adoption online. Our adoption donation ranges from £75 to £550, depending on the animal's location and other factors. You are welcome to share our adoption posts and take the animal to fairs if you wish, however, any interested applicant must contact us directly.
- All our animals are neutered/spayed, fully vaccinated, health-checked by a vet, flea and worm treated, and microchipped. Similarly, any animals we help to rehome are microchipped, flea and worm treated, and health-checked by a vet. All microchips are registered with the DEFRA-approved database MyPet in the UK under Amos.
