Welcome to the first step in building your future with Tile Setter Local #5. Our application process is designed to help you start a career in tile setting through training, preparation, and connection with union contractors.

You will need to provide:
✅ General Letter of Interest (include your name, address, phone number, experience, and intentions)
✅ High School Diploma, GED, HSED, or Transcripts
✅ Valid Driver’s License
🛑 Important: You will not be considered for the program until all required documents are submitted.
📌 Step 2: Start as a Finisher/Helper
Before entering the apprenticeship program, applicants must gain on-the-job experience as a Tile Finisher/Helper.
Details:
💼 Role: Assists Tile Setters with preparation and installation tasks
💵 Starting Wage: $22.04/hr (50% of Journeyman wage)
⬆️ Increase: +5% after 6 months and 780 work hours
🩺 Health Insurance: Available after 3 months of work and required hours met
⚠️ Important: Pre-Apprentice and Helper opportunities are based on contractor needs and may not always be immediately available.
🧱 Step 3: Tile Setter Apprenticeship
Once you have at least 6 months of experience as a Finisher/Helper, you can apply to become a Tile Setter Apprentice.
Details:
📚 Program Length: 3 years
💵 Starting Wage: $26.45/hr (60% of Journeyman wage)
⬆️ Scheduled wage increases as you progress through the program
🧰 Training includes hands-on skills, safety, and contractor expectations
📌 Step 4: Testing Requirements
To qualify as an apprentice, you must meet the following testing standards:
🏆 Step 5: Become a Journeyman Tile Setter
After successfully completing your apprenticeship, you’ll earn Journeyman status.
💵 Wage: $44.08/hr
💰 Total Package: $71.72/hr (including benefits)
📝 Note: All wages are subject to a $2.81/hr dues check-off.
