September 11: Day of Service and Remembrance

Thank you so much for volunteering to make a difference on the thirteenth anniversary of Sept. 11.

In Westchester, teens are coming together from all over to be part of the largest single day of community service that the United States has ever seen. The day is taking place in memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, thirteen years ago

The event is on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the JCC of Mid-Westchester (999 Wilmot Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583)

For our middle school and high school students, we will start the day with a remembrance ceremony at 11 am. Please arrive at 10:45 am for check-in and final registration! Following the ceremony, we will split up into various service projects and come together in the back parking lot tent at 1 pm. The options include:

a. Car Wash: Run a car wash. All money will be donated to various charities.
b. Cupcake Decorating: For our local first responders.
c. Sandwich Making: For Hope Community Services
d. Sunday Funday Gym Time: Organized sports activities for special services program participants
e. Face Painting at Pet Rescue
f. Anti-Bullying Craft Making
g. Kids Kloset: clothing sorting

Each participant will receive a certificate for two hours of community service time that you can use towards your required community service hours.

Bring any of the following items for donation: children clothing, new pillows, pasta/cereal/canned tuna and new school and art supplies.

Please contact Dana at dshakarchy@bbyo.org or (917) 968-9638 with any questions.
