我們是一群愉景灣居民，強烈反對政府執意修訂《逃犯條例》以容許移交疑犯至中國大陸。

· 特區政府表示修例為處理台灣殺人案，但台灣政府已表明即使香港通過修例亦不會移交涉案港人; 可是政府仍然執意立法，亦拒絕各界提出的替代方案，更要求立法會繞過法案委員會，於6月直接將條例草案提交大會二讀。利用死者為藉口以硬推惡法，令人髮指，動機亦可疑。

· 修訂一旦通過，將容許行政長官授權向中國大陸移交疑犯，任何香港人及在港人士的人身安全與財產都不受保障。中國大陸並無獨立司法制度，在人權、新聞自由、宗教自由等方面的紀錄亦極惡劣。大律師公會指當年是基於內地人權紀錄而故意把內地剔除，但政府仍不停謊稱此為漏洞。

· 修訂對香港更致命的一擊，將會是直接打擊國際投資者信心；投資者一旦撒資，本已泡沫化的香港經濟將加速崩潰。至今多國已向特區政府作出強烈而前所未有的反對，包括歐盟發出外交照會抗議，及美國跨黨派國會議員要求撤回修訂，可見修例影響之壞。

香港是我家，前人努力建設百年才有現在的制度與繁榮，豈容一朝破壞? 我們要求政府立即擱置修訂《逃犯條例》。我們亦呼籲香港人於6月9日一起上街，向政府及全世界表達強烈反對的決心。

We are a group of Discovery Bay residents.  We make this Joint Statement to express our strong opposition to the government's insistence on amending the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance to allow the transfer of suspects to Mainland China.
 
The government has stated that it is pursuing the bill to extradite a murder suspect to Taiwan.  However, Taiwan has made it clear that it will not seek the suspect’s return even if the bill is passed, citing risks to the rights of its citizens.

Nevertheless, the government continues to push for the amendments and has ruled out alternatives proposed by multiple sectors.

The government has also fast-tracked the bill to have its second reading at the Full Council on June 12, in a rare move of bypassing the Bills Committee.
 
Exploiting a deceased woman to push the controversial Bill is infuriating.  The Government’s motive is highly doubtful.

The bill will also hurt Hong Kong’s economic interests.  Organisations like the American Chamber of Commerce have warned that the proposed amendments will reduce the appeal of Hong Kong to international companies.
 
Foreign governments have formally voiced concerns.

The EU office in Hong Kong and Macau issued a formal diplomatic “demarche” protest note to Hong Kong’s Chief Executive.

Britain expressed its concerns through its Consul General Andrew Heyn.

In the USA, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also voiced his concerns and lawmakers vowed to produce a bipartisan joint statement to protest against the bill in the coming weeks.
 
Hong Kong is our home.  We have sadly seen steady erosions of established systems, freedoms, autonomy and rule of law; cornerstones of Hong Kong’s economic prosperity and international competitiveness.  This must stop now.
 
We demand that the government withdraw the proposed changes to the extradition bill.
 
We also urge everyone in Hong Kong to participate in the rally on 09 June.  We shall show the government and the world our objection to the bill en masse.
