STEP in to the Smithsonian
What does the future look like for our museums?
Whose histories and stories do they represent?
What stories do they tell, how do they tell them?
And who is telling them…

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the London Boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, along with the Foundation for Future London and Create Jobs have teamed up with the Smithsonian Institution to fund an exciting international experience for local residents aged 18-30 years old.

What will you get:
Daily seminars led by professors and researchers, exploring various areas of the museum.
Live project briefs set by Smithsonian museum staff
Access to curators, conservators, archivists and administration professionals who will share stories about working in the world’s largest museum
1-2-1 careers advice and guidance from industry professionals
A network of students from across the US, (aged 18-25) who will also take part in the programme, providing an opportunity to network with peers and exchange knowledge, learnings and ideas
Time and support to develop your response to a live content brief with Create Jobs

Access to Macbooks/cameras/audio equipment

Who is it for:
Passionate about pursuing a career in the cultural sector (museums, galleries, theatre, dance, performance and music)
Resident of Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest or Newham
Aged 18 to 30
Underrepresented in the sector*
Unemployed or underemployed*

We are seeking applications from people who are currently under-represented in the cultural sector. This includes candidates from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background, disabled candidates and those from the LGBTQ+ community, as well people from a range of socio-economic backgrounds. We also welcome applicants from a range of educational backgrounds and don’t require any formal qualifications or experience in the cultural sector.

Deadline for applications is Monday 18th March 10am
If selected, you’ll need to be available for an assessment day which will be held on Friday 22nd March 2019.

The London bootcamp will take place between Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th April 2019

The Smithsonian Exchange will be three weeks in Washington DC, 13th May to 30th May 2019.
