Your union, the GraduateĀ Labor Organization (GLO), is currently bargaining to win a new contract for us graduate workers. As the bargaining process continues, it is imperative that we as Black students have our voices and concerns heard and represented by our union as they negotiate on our behalf. Black students face challenges that are common to all workers. But we also face our own set of unique challenges as we navigate anti-Black systems that pervade our society, which includes our experience here at Brown.
As such, Nabrit and GLO are working together to gather input from the Black student community so that the bargaining committee can work to incorporate our needs, demands, and ideas into the new contract we're currently fighting for. The university administration and campus deans may say that they're there for us and that we are heard by them. But unless codified in our contract, they are not compelled by a legally binding document to honor the conditions that we've fought for.
As a member of the Black graduate community, we would love to hear your thoughts about what the union can bargain for on our behalf. The input that you share can make a difference for Black students, current and future here at Brown. Thank you for your time and for sharing your thoughts!
