What is Verification you ask?

Verification is a process that is mandated by the Federal Government in which schools are required to and have the authority to collect additional documentation to verify data that was provided on a students FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). If you are selected for Verification you will be required to complete an additional step before you can receive Federal financial aid.

How do you know if you've been selected for Verification?

There are a couple of ways to know that you have been selected for this process. One way you will know you are selected is by reading your SAR (Student Aid Report) which is the results of your FAFSA. If you are selected, there will be a comment with the following message: Your FAFSA has been selected for a review process called verification. Your school has the authority to request copies of certain financial documents from you and your parent(s). The second way you'll know you have been selected is by checking your To Do List. If you have MCCCD Dep or Ind Verif WS checklist items you will need to complete the process.
