Pepperdine's Adopt-a-Dorm '22-'23 ~ KROWN BETA House
The Adopt-a-Dorm program was developed by the Seaver Parents Program to further build community for incoming students, while simultaneously supporting the efforts of Housing and Residence Life, including the Resident Advisors (RAs) and Spiritual Life Advisors (SLAs), who pour so tirelessly into our students’ lives.

As an “adoptive parent” you have five unique opportunities each month to come alongside the residents and staff members in the following ways to help create a warm, welcoming and nurturing “family” dynamic for all residents involved…

Assist -     Support the student-identified needs and WISH LIST items
Donate -    Financially enhance the house’s HRL staff budget
                         Direct link (https://give.pepperdine.edu/seaver/adoptadorm)

Many students become homesick this time of year. Some may have been more dependent on their families -- going home every weekend -- while others sought some distance to grow into the person they want to become. As we approach the holidays, many of our students become more and more homesick, especially those whose parents were not able to make it to Waves Weekend. Keep in touch with your students regularly and please keep all of our students in your prayers.

For new college students, the sudden amount of free time -- class that only meet two or three times a week for an hour or so -- leads to the development of bad habits that can hurt academic performance and increase stress levels. As students approach their first finals at Pepperdine, many are dealing with stress. Please pray that our students are using their good study habits,  time-management systems and managing their  coursework.

Feelings of anxiety and loneliness can rise again once students return to campus after the holiday break. Extra support and encouragement is sometimes necessary to help students re-engage when returing to the housing community after leaving he comfort and safety of home, family, and friends. Please pray for our wonderful students.

Most students go to college carrying some expectations; pressures to choose the right major  or get good grades. If they are 1st generation,  stress is even greater.  Pray for confidence & faith in their decisions & family support for all our students.

The transition to adulthood may be harder for some than others.  Mid-way through the year, students may deal with roommate issues, peer pressure to take part in all sorts of activities, use alcohol and other drugs., make new friends, or lack self-image -- socially, physically, academically. These can all be major stressors. Female students, especially, deal with stress related to weight gain and physical appearance, but all students deal with the stress of how they are perceived.  Please pray for all of our students that may be struggling with personal stress.

As year-end finals approach, many students feel increasingly overwhelmed.  Attending classes, completing the readings, writing papers, managing projects, and preparing for exams all put a heavy burden on students.  Please pray that our diligent students are well prepared and seek help from the academic counseling office and/or professors for any additional help.  Please pray for all of our students.
