At Seawell Elementary, we recognize that students may occasionally participate in meaningful educational experiences outside of school. In accordance with CHCCS Board Policy 4400, families may request that these absences be excused as an educational opportunity with prior approval from the principal.
Seawell Educational Leave GuidelinesRequests for up to five school days of educational leave per year will generally be approved when they meet the criteria for a valid educational opportunity.
Requests exceeding five days will receive additional review based on the student's overall attendance, educational leave already taken or requested, length of the absence, and nature of the educational opportunity. Approval beyond five days should not be assumed.
CHCCS Board Policy allows a maximum of 10 excused educational leave days per school year. Students are also required to attend at least 83% of the instructional days in the academic year.
What Qualifies?Requests must identify the learning objective and explain how the experience connects to the student's coursework or educational development.
Family trips, vacations, weddings, reunions, and similar events do not qualify simply because travel is involved. To be considered for educational leave, the experience must have been designed to provide a valid educational opportunity.
Submitting a Request
Please submit this Educational Leave Request Form at least 10 working days (two weeks) before the proposed absence. Principal Kulikowski will review the request, and our Data Manager, Ms. Evelin, will notify you once a decision has been made.
Families with more than one child at Seawell only need to complete one form and should list all students included in the request. You will be notified after the request has been reviewed.
