University Science Communication Competition 2023

InfoNile in partnership with JRS Biodiversity and IHE Delft are delighted to host a Science Communication Competition about swamps restoration in Africa.

This year's competition aims at inspiring the youth to value swamps (wetlands) in our communities, be able to employ their already acquired skills in science and research to communicate effectively to the general public regarding the focus theme. It will further encourage and  promote the various roles of swamps in biodiversity conservation especially in the age of climate change, highlighting threats posed and different ways of mitigation.

Swamps play a great role in protecting and preserving biodiversity but stressors, including human activities, are posing a great impact unto them. Different ways of mitigations including restoration, establishment, enhancement and preservation have been put in  place to return the former natural functions and characteristics.

Submissions for the competition will be judged on the following criteria: Relevance to Swamps & Biodiversity in a Changing Climate; Accuracy in Communicating Scientific Research; Ease of Understanding the Science and Impact; Creativity and Engagement; Teamwork; Depth and Impact.
