ALL Blake families should complete this form, regardless of their current participation in music courses this year.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders have the opportunity to choose to participate in Band, Orchestra, or Chorus as a part of their course schedule for three periods per week. Students who do not choose to participate in a music ensemble will be placed in the classes listed below, based on grade level.
** Please note that the classes below may change, depending on staffing and scheduling 6TH GRADE --- the related rotation currently consists of 3 classes (Coding, Family and Consumer Science, and Guidance Class) that meet one period per week for about 12 weeks each. In addition, sixth graders are enrolled in a "plus class" which may be a music, PE, Reading, art or other class based on staffing and scheduling. Plus classes take place one time per week for the entire year. In grade 6, students who do not select Band, Chorus, or Orchestra will receive a year long general music class in addition to their related rotation classes and plus class.
7TH GRADE -- the related rotation currently consists of 3 classes (Family and Consumer Science, Information Literacy, and Guidance Class) that each meet one period per week for about 12 weeks each. In addition, 7th graders who do not take an ensemble are enrolled in Current Events one time per week all year and Public Speaking one time per week all year.
8TH GRADE -- the related rotations currently consists of 2 sets of 3 classes (Guidance Class, Family and Consumer Science, Information Literacy; and Embracing Diversity and Design Studio) that each meet one period per week for about 12 weeks each. In addition, eighth graders are enrolled in a "plus class" which may be a music, PE, Reading, Civics Extension, or art or other class based on staffing and scheduling. Plus classes take place one time per week for the entire year.
7th and 8th graders have the option to join one of the instrumental ensembles (Band or Orchestra) AND Chorus, schedule permitting. If students are interested, parents/caregivers should contact the respective music directors. Students would have a combination of band/orchestra and chorus, if their overall schedule permits.
