Childhood Trauma Presentation
Saturday, February 9, 2019
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brainerd
9:30 am - 12:00 pm

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study looked at 10 types of childhood trauma: physical and emotional neglect; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; and household dysfunction--having an addicted, mentally ill, divorced, or incarcerated parent, and having a battered mother. What the study found was the more ACEs one experienced between 0-18 years old, the higher the rates of all kinds of problems including: heart disease, lung disease, depression, addiction, employment issues, etc.

At this presentation we'll learn how ACEs are more common that we might think, how they potentially damage developing brains, and how this can lead to all kinds of social, physical, and mental problems. We'll also explore how one can overcome ACEs in their life and how it takes the whole community to reduce ACEs in our society.
