The purpose of this survey is to investigate the experience of immigrants/non-native English speakers working in trades. We aim to gather feedback and demographic information to complete an app usability survey.
Jargon is an app that aims to address language barriers affecting immigrants and non-native English speakers in trade. While the share of immigrants vary by specific trades, they account for about 20-30% of the whole trades workforce; for most of them, English is not their first language. Language barriers can cause further issues such as higher safety risks, costly mistakes, project efficiency, hindered career advancements, retention in trades, and the overall well-being of trade workers. Jargon aims to overcome these issues by helping immigrants and non-native speakers learn English specific to their trade through simple, fun, and interactive ways.
