ABOUT CHILD HEALTH ADVOCACY INSTITUTE:
The Children’s Hospital Advocacy Institute’s (CHAI) mission is to positively impact the health and safety of children by working collaboratively with the public and our community partners. By bringing people together and leading the way in child health and safety, CHAI builds and operates evidence based programs aimed at creating a thriving community for children.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ADVOCACY BOOT CAMP:
Through completing Advocacy Boot Camp, you will:
*Find your voice, believe you can effect change, and know how to improve your community for children
*Be able to identify community resources and supports for children and understand how to utilize them
*Build confidence in communicating with elected officials and other community leaders on behalf of children
*Develop public speaking skills and strategies
*Learn the importance of the media and how to leverage it to make positive societal improvements for children
*Gain an understanding of the legislative process and state budgeting
*Be able to navigate the State Capitol
IF SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN ADVOCACY BOOT CAMP, YOU MUST AGREE TO:
*Miss no more than two classes. Advocacy Boot Camp offers a learning experience and attendance at monthly meetings is required. More than two absences is cause for dismissal from the class.
*Ensure you can take time off work and/or have adequate childcare for all of the course dates.
*Have a positive attitude. Show up ready to learn, with an open mind and creative brain.
*Be on time.
*Use what you learn to positively impact children in your community.
*Be open to other ideas, suggestions, and opinions that don’t necessarily align with your own.
*Foster safe space for yourself and other participants in moments of vulnerability.
