Fall Picnic / Welcome Back Party – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Coordinate and supervise our back-to-school festival held in our school backyard. This committee requires many volunteers. The chairs need to organize activities, entertainment and food. This event is scheduled for mid-September, therefore, planning begins in the summer.

Summer Picnic / End of Year Party – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Coordinate and supervise our end of year celebration held in our school backyard.

Halloween Fall Festival – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Plan a Halloween party for Willits families in October in the evening. We usually have about 150 participants. This committee organizes games, décor, DJ, food and candy in the gym or outside for some Halloween fun!

Bingo Game Night – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Plan and supervise our family fun Bingo night – organize entertainment if applicable, purchase prizes, purchase snacks to be sold. Coordinate set up in the gym.

International Night (Multi-Cultural Night) – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Coordinate and supervise an educational and entertaining evening of crafts, food and cultural arts programs pertaining to an international theme. 

Committee chair is responsible for finding “country captains” to represent the different countries/cultures. Committee chairs will be responsible to find MC for event.

Committee chair needs to setup USA table. Committee Chair needs to purchase

paper goods and supplies needed for all countries to use. Also, this committee is responsible for working with Ms. Morgan to setup some in school cultural activities.

Event will take place in February or April. This committee requires many volunteers for planning and executing.

Staff Recognition Luncheon – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Day Event)

Coordinate, setup and facilitate an annual buffet lunch for the teachers and staff, in late April. Committee chair needs to get price estimates for food & decorations and a giveaway. Donations are collected via memberhub. This person also is required to set up the day before, organize volunteers to help serve lunch and cleanup to follow.

Many volunteers needed.

Movie Night – 2 Committee Chairs Required (After School Event)

Plan and supervise our family Movie Night, where every grade is welcome to come enjoy a movie in the Gym and sell snacks for sale to raise money for the PTA.

Book Fairs – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Day Event)

Coordinate two book fairs, one in fall and one in spring, for the students of Willits. Work with Scholastic to supply an appropriate selection of books to be purchased at a discount by the students. Set up the evening before, organize volunteers, assist students during the fair, run the cash registers and facilitate the cleanup. This is usually a two-day event.

Holiday Boutiques – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Day Event)

There are two boutiques annually. The Holiday Boutique is held in December and the Spring Boutique (Mothers Day/Fathers Day) is in May. The co-chairs meet with the representative from Miss Chocolate and go over the details regarding inventory as well as advertising before the boutiques. The co-chairs are responsible for setting up, cleaning up, coordinating parent volunteers, running the cash registers and restocking items as needed as well as submitting a final inventory at the end of the boutiques. The children may purchase items from $1.00 to $20.00. This is a one day event.

Box Tops – 1 Committee Chair Required (Ongoing- all work can be done from home)

Oversee Box Top collection and keep track of amounts earned. Proceeds will be used towards PTA sponsored events.

School Supplies – 1 Committee Chair Required (Spring - all work done from home)

Work with EPI representative to have supply lists for the following school year updated on ordering site and available to order in the spring. Request list of supplies by grade via the main office - review options and pricing. Update letter to be backpacked in the spring as well.

Spirit Wear – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Summer/Fall - most work can be done from home)

Responsible for co-designing, ordering and selling Syosset/Willits merchandise as a fundraiser as needed. This committee typically meets in the summer to have the new line ready for Back to School. Samples are required for preview at the Back to School/Fall Picnic in September. Also responsible for designing and ordering Field Day shirts for the school (May).

Pie Sale – 1 Committee Chair Required (Day Event)

This committee is responsible for coordinating a sweets sale, usually with White Post Farms, before the Thanksgiving holiday. Food will need to be picked up on a certain date and then distributed to families. Table can be setup in School lobby for pickup, and some pickups may be done from committee chairs home during the evening. (Day Event-Thanksgiving)

Assistant Principal Raffle – 1 Committee Chair Required (Day Event)

Responsible for sending home information to purchase raffles two times a year for students who would like to enter to win the role of Assistant Principal for a month. (Spring)

School Discount Card – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Summer/Daytime Requirements)

This committee will go to popular local community vendors over the summer prior to the start of the school year and see if they are willing to offer a discount to our families. List of local vendor suggestions will be provided based on previous year(s).

Once all vendors have agreed committee chair is responsible for organizing and facilitating the production of a plastic discount card which would be available for purchase and valid for the school year. (Back to School)

Parents Night Out - 2 Committee Chairs Required

Responsible for organizing our Parents Night Out annual event in January.

Committee Chairs are required to get pricing from a few local restaurants, organize raffles from local vendors and school/teachers for experiences, and organize decorations. Required to organize, setup event, and help sell raffles.

Community Service – 2 Committee Chairs Required

The goal of this committee is to plan programs through which our school and students can make a difference in the community. Some past events include book drive, Thanksgiving canned food drive, coat drive and donations to various local charities. Events are coordinated with age-appropriate students during their recess where they can help organize and prepare some of the collections.

Curriculum Enrichment/Author Illustrator – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Day Events)

Planning events through BOCES for the students to enjoy during the school day. Bring quality in-school programs in the arts (music, art, dance, theatre, visualarts, author) to grades K through 5. Find programs related to curriculum study (cultural, scientific, historical, and literary). The goal of this committee is to exposestudents to cultural and fine arts, as they pertain to areas of their study. Most of our school assemblies are run out of this committee. This committee will also pick a children’s book author to visit the school preferably close to PARP week to present aprogram for the students. The books written by the author should be made available for purchase prior to the program date.

Required to manage BOCES school budget, manage calendar, and communicate with Main office to get assemblies approved. Also required to attend assemblies and submit initial date/setup and then final information on BOCES website.

PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) – 2 Committee Chairs Required (Day Events)

This is an initiative of the National PTA. It is a national program to promote reading both at school and at home. PARP typically runs for one week with a theme determined by the committee. We get the kids excited about reading. PARP week is kicked off with an Author/Illustrator presentation. Committee chairs are responsible to come up with daily creative in-school activities – word search, scavenger hunt, fun facts, quiz, guessing game – create flyers for events and make photocopies to be distributed via the main office. The committee chair also must organize the PARP Contract to be signed by students (photocopies and distribution via main office) and work with the Book Fair chairs to select and order a book to be gifted to the students using our book fair earned scholastic dollars.

Willits Buddy Program – 1 Committee Chair Required

The goal of this committee is to find a buddy for kindergarten families and other new families to be matched with more experienced Willits families. They can offer guidance and assistance on various questions that can come up when starting in a new school. The chair will create a Google Form to match up new families and volunteer buddies.

Fundraising Committee *NEW* - 2 Committee Chairs Required

This committee is responsible for brainstorming new ideas to support fundraising initiatives for our school. This committee will also reach out to other schools forideas and support. Example idea: Mahjong/Canasta (parents’ event)

Website Committee *NEW* - 1 Committee Chair Required
This committee will be responsible for creating and maintaining an AP Willits PTA web page. The website will serve as a central hub for parents and the school community, providing easy access to important information including upcoming events, PTA forms, announcements, and general updates about school activities. Committee members should be comfortable with basic website tools or willing to learn.

Directory Spot/Digital Directory – 1 Committee Chair Required

Update information on Directory Spot to reflect 2025-2026 families, faculty and staff. The site is user friendly, has online tutorials and Q&A. Preparation and bulk of the work takes place in the late summer and September. (All work done at home)

Membership – 1 Committee Chair Required

A committee to prepare for and complete the yearly PTA membership drive. The bulk of the work is from August (welcome packet will be emailed) through December, but work goes on through March and membership is considered a rolling committee. Also responsible for tracking members who haven’t paid but are receiving Smore distribution, only paid members should be receiving the weekly Smore email. (All work can be done from home.)

Publicity – 1 Committee Chair Required

This committee is responsible for publicizing school events at Willits through our AP Willits PTA Facebook page and Instagram account. This includes events during the school day and night/weekend events as well as fundraising opportunities. (All work can be done from home.)

Room Representatives Chair – 2 Committee Chairs Required

The committee is responsible for organizing and carrying out the drawing of names of eligible parents who then assist teachers as class parents, organizing collections for class parties/events. They are also responsible to forward PTA communications to the selected Room Reps for each class – all flyers and fundraisers should be communicated this way. Room Rep chairs are responsible for organizing a meeting with the chairs and Ms. Morgan to discuss specifics of the role regarding Class Parties, Food, and goody bags/class handouts.

SEPTA Liaison – 1 Committee Chair Required

Chair will act as a liaison between the special education PTA and our Willits unit. Responsibilities include informing our unit about special speakers and events.

Picture Day – 1 Committee Chair Required (Day Event)

This committee is responsible for coordinating with Irvin Simon Photographers to schedule and ensure Picture Day goes smoothly.

PRIDE Outside – 1 Committee Chair Required

This is a new committee which will be responsible for coordinating outdoor decorations and planting in the Willits front garden. Person will coordinate with Ms. Morgan.

Fifth Grade T-Shirts – 1 Committee Chair Required

This committee is responsible for designing and order T-shirts for the 5th grade students (Budget is given by PTA). Committee chairs will have to request sizing from 5th Grade Parents and teachers, as well as Ms. Morgan. Final Design must be approved by PTA Presidents and Ms. Morgan. Shirt are ordered in October.

Fifth Grade Fundraising – 2 Committee Chairs Required

This committee is responsible for organizing Fundraisers to support and end of year Graduation Party to be held outside of school or in school, may vary year to year depending on amount fundraised. All fundraisers must be organized and solicited outside of the main PTA communication Stream – 5th Grade families will need to personally publicize.

Fifth Grade Graduation Party / Yearbook Signing – 2 Committee Chairs Required

This committee is responsible for planning and running the in-school or out of school graduation party for fifth graders as well as a Yearbook signing breakfast orlunch with the 5th Grade Teachers. Responsibilities include hiring entertainment, planning the food menu for each event and party giveaway. Pens are also ordered for the yearbook signing.

This committee is responsible for collecting information and photos needed for the yearbook, creating and editing the yearbook, and working with the yearbook/photography company.
