Bright Start Mentor Application
The Bright Start Program brings children experiencing homelessness a structured, assessment and researched based learning experience; the love, mentorship and support of a caring volunteer; and finally, serves to empower their parents with skills and strategies to best advocate for their early learners.
We are in need of mentors to pair with K-6th grade students. Children in the Bright Start Program receive a volunteer mentor who meets with them every week for a two-hour session. The primary goal for the students during their time with their mentor is to deepen their understanding of their self worth, awareness and growth, and to build a positive self-concept. Our goal is to have each child understand how much they matter in the world and to deeply appreciate how much they have to offer to the experience of those around them. Mentoring sessions will take place at a location convenient for the family and at a time convenient to both the mentor and child. Experience with children strongly recommended.
Minimum Age Requirement: 21+
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week for one full calendar year
All mentors must submit to a Live Scan background check within 7 days of their approval.
