To Chancellor Everts:
We, the individuals who have signed this petition, appreciate your call for input regarding the use of ASU Student IDs as proof of identity at the polls. The students of Appalachian State University have a constitutional right to vote and have guaranteed equal access to the polls. We are petitioning you to stand up and strong for our constitutional right to vote. We care about the future and want to make our voices heard in elections.
Starting this year, we must present photo IDs when we go to vote. The State Legislature has decided that our student IDs will count as valid proof of identity at the polls once you sign a "Student ID Attestation Form," a form that has been provided to you by the NC State Board of Elections and is also presented below. We have also included a copy of the newly-passed law as it pertains to the use of our Student IDs as valid proof of identity at the polls at the end of this petition.
If you do do not sign and submit this form by March 15th, we will not be able to use our student IDs as valid proof of identity at the polls through the 2020 elections.
We are therefore requesting that you sign and submit this form before the March 15th deadline in order to protect our constitutional right to vote.
