RPGs allow us the freedom to act out characters with different identities, backgrounds, and motivations than our own. This can lead to deeper understanding of ourselves and/or others.

What aspects of trans identities could be expressed through characters who aren't overtly trans? I want to support gaymers and gamemakers in creating characters who speak to the trans experience and express trans hardships through universally relatable themes. Thank you for answering this survey and helping me achieve this goal! Answers will be considered when creating content for my "Egg Cracks & Empathy: Trans Analogs" panels at upcoming conferences!

Have you roleplayed any of the following?

A character who was your gender identity before coming out of the closet

A character of a different gender identity than your own

A character who disobeyed gender norms

A character who faced social consequences for disobeying gender norms

A character with extensive body modification / augmentation

A character who was alienated by society for the way their body looked

A character who remembered a lifetime as a previous gender (i.e. Jadzia Dax / the Trill from Star Trek, reincarnation, etc.)

A character who struggled with a curse, disease, or other affliction that transformed their body against their will

A character who was a construct, a robot, etc.

Can you think of other ways that you expressed your gender identity and/or experimented with gender identity through the characters you have created?
