           YOUR GREEN VACATION: Smart and Green Campsites for a Sustainable Future of Tourism
         which will be held on 7 November 2025 in the atrium of Karlovac University of Applied Sciences


The event is jointly organized by: Karlovac University of Applied Sciences, Public Institution Regional Development Agency of Karlovac County, Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), School of Public Management, Communication and Tourism in Mirandela (Portugal), Public Institution NATURA VIVA for the Management of Protected Natural Areas in Karlovac County, Public Institution Barać Caves for the Management of Protected Natural Values in the Municipality of Rakovica, and the Tourist Board of the City of  Karlovac.

Conference Sessions:

Session 1 – Camping Tourism and Sustainable Development
This session opens the conference with an overview of the key challenges and opportunities for the development of sustainable camping tourism in Croatia. The focus is on current projects, research results, and strategic approaches – from the application of nature-based solutions and new business models to the importance of education and spatial planning. A broader context of the camping sector will be provided, along with discussions on the need for professionalization, green investments, and responsible destination management.

Session 2 – Smart Campsites and Artificial Intelligence
The final session explores how new technologies – from smart systems and urban mobility to artificial intelligence – can enhance sustainable management of campsites and destinations. Concrete solutions and projects will be showcased, connecting digitalization with environmental goals, with a focus on intelligent planning, digital user services, and data-driven decision-making support.

Session 3 – International Perspectives and Research
This session offers an international viewpoint on sustainable tourism through examples of good practices, scientific studies, and experiences of educational institutions. Participants will hear about innovative research methods for monitoring visitor behavior, sustainable internationalization in higher education, and the development of campsites in the context of environmental protection. The session concludes with a roundtable discussion featuring campsite representatives who will share practical experiences in sustainability-focused campsite management.

Session 4 – Tourism and Environmental Protection: Nature-Based Solutions in Practice
The third session presents concrete examples of applying nature-based solutions (NbS) in tourism and spatial planning. Institutional projects, pilot activities, and challenges in managing sensitive areas such as rivers and protected zones will be presented. Topics will center around climate resilience, integrated management approaches, and balancing tourism development with the preservation of nature and local values.
