COMMUNITY AS MEDICINE IS BACK!
And we are looking for 15 teachers to be a part of our year three cohort.
Community as Medicine is a professional development series dedicated to transforming isolation into collective power. We are building a network of Detroit educators committed to education beyond institutional boundaries by connecting early-career teachers with artists, organizers, and community spaces to foster innovative, community-driven education. Through this work we are able to fill gaps that are currently within our schools systems and give resources to under-resourced classrooms.
We believe educators are not just classroom practitioners but cultural architects, shaping the collective imagination of our society. Through intentional spaces of connection, we:
Disrupt the systemic isolation of educational work
Build bridges across disciplines, neighborhoods, and generational learning traditions
Cultivate networks of mutual support, creative resistance, and professional growth
Develop alternative pathways for education that center community, art, and collaboration
Through our partnerships we are able to create dynamic learning environments that extend beyond traditional frameworks.
Every teacher of our cohort is both a learner and a leader, contributing to a growing ecosystem of education rooted in care, creativity, and social change. More than a support network, we are constructing a foundation for a more inclusive, dynamic, and interconnected future in education.
