Downtown Nashua Plaid Friday Survey
Great American Downtown is considering joining in with other NH communities to drive business at our small locally owned shops and restaurants through the promotion of "Plaid Friday" and we are seeking feedback from the business community to determine if there is sufficient interest in participation for the second year.
From the originators:
"The name Plaid Friday was conceived from the idea of weaving the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the relaxing and enjoyable alternative to the big box store “Black Friday,” and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays.
Plaid Friday was conceptualized in Oakland, CA, a city known for strong shop local campaigns. Plaid Friday strives to bring back the days when shopping for friends and family during the holidays was a pleasurable and leisurely activity.
In recent years, NH organizations like Monadnock Buy Local and the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce have coordinated with their small business stakeholders to elevate small businesses on a day that is typically thought of as a time to visit big-box stores. This is the small business antidote to Black Friday.
Participating community members are encouraged to wear Plaid and patronize small businesses on this day, oftentimes with some manner of special offer and/or other fun and engaging activities for those who wear their plaid. We believe that we can have some great success driving visitors Downtown on the Friday after thanksgiving through this promotion, as they plan their holiday shopping.
Great American Downtown will seek to pool resources of participants for collaborative promotional efforts. We believe that driving collaboration that showcases the advantages that come with supporting our small businesses is an essential part of the recipe for a vibrant Downtown Nashua. We ask all participants to pledge to put in at least $50 toward promotional efforts, and 100% of Plaid Friday commitments will be put toward those efforts.
Please fill out the survey below to help us determine if there will be sufficient interest among possible participating businesses to make for an engaging experience for our visitors on Plaid Friday! We will need at least 25 businesses to participate, and hope to make a determination by no later than October 25th if we will move forward.
Wishing you a prosperous holiday season ahead,
Great American Downtown
