Watts/Century Latino Organization -- Board Member Application
Thank you for your interest in serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Watts Century Latino Organization (WCLO)! We are heartened by your desire to serve and lead with our dynamic organization! As a board member, you’ll be part of a group of decision-makers and ambassadors who influence the current and future shape of WCLO in service of its goals to empower and uplift the Watts community. Completing this form will help you understand the skills and time/resource commitments of this position and provide the opportunity for our team to learn more about you, your journey, values and skills. You may find it helpful to read through the entire application and Board Member Responsibilities before you begin filling it out. 

This application will be kept confidential and in an electronic file in the WCLO Administrative Drive. Applications are used by the Board to identify and evaluate potential board candidates. All new Board members are elected by a majority vote of current board members. Board Member Responsibilities 

*Serve as a trusted advisor and contributor at the Board and ED as develop (and ultimately implement) WCLO’s strategic plan. 

*Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings. 

*Approve WCLO’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all fiduciary responsibilities. 

*Contribute to the organization’s financial well-being by committing to giving (or getting) a donation amount that is personally meaningful for you

*Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the ED.

*Assist the ED and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members. 

*Partner with the ED and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out. 

*Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments. 

*Ensure WCLO’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the community WCLO serves, and embrace the principles of justice, equity and inclusion

*Direct, and inspire the organization through the careful deliberation and establishment of policies, and development and implementation of a strategic plan. 

*Account to the general public for competent, conscientious, and effective accomplishment of its obligations as a body. It will allow no officer, individual, or committee of the Board to usurp this role or deter this discipline.
