2014 - New York Blacks in Philanthropy Network Member Form

NYBIP MISSION STATEMENT:
New York Blacks in Philanthropy (NYBIP) is a network of Black professionals reflecting people of the African Diaspora, including African-Americans, African natives, Afro-Latinos, Caribbean natives and Caribbean-Americans, dedicated to strengthening and increasing the leadership of Black professionals throughout the field of philanthropy. NYBIP provides networking opportunities, facilitates leadership development opportunities, and seeks to coordinate strategies for leveraging human and financial resources for organizations serving Black communities.

NETWORK MEMBERS INCLUDE:
The NYBIP network members include foundation/grantmaking staff and professional such as trustees, program officers, program directors, program associates, administrative and technical staff. W e aim to build a network of foundation and grantmaking staff/professionals from private, family, community, government and corporate philanthropies. We aim to serve as a bridge between black professionals in philanthropy with black individual and family donors, and black community-serving nonprofits.

There are two types of members eligible to join the NYBIP Network:
o Core Members: Staff/professionals currently employed by a philanthropic/grantmaking institution or department, or serve in a leadership or policy making position related to philanthropy (e.g. board director, trustee, or advisory committee member), or be a donor through a donor-advised fund or another philanthropic or financial entity; and be committed to the NYBIP mission. Core members can participate o the governance body (executive team) of NYBIP.

o Ally Members: Former affiliates of philanthropic institutions, staff or board members of nonprofit organizations, and students and interested community members, all of whom have an interest in and commitment to Black communities and advancing the NYBIP mission. As NYBIP ally members, you are welcome to participate in ally-oriented NYBIP events. Ally members cannot be on the governance body (executive team) of NYBIP.

WHY JOIN THE NYBIP NETWORK?
o Networking opportunities with other Black professionals in the philanthropic sector.
o The opportunity to build professional and leadership skills and capacities.
o Access to NYBIP programming including networking events, trainings and educational forums
o Opportunities to play various leadership role within the organization
o Opportunities to join and participate on committee working groups
