PURPOSE: This survey, initiated by the City of Lakewood, is part of an economic development effort which aims to generate a better understanding of knowledge-intensive services in West Denver (Lakewood, Golden).
DEFINITIONS: Knowledge-Intensive Services” are large and dynamic sectors in the U.S. economy. For this study, we define knowledge-intensive services as Professional, business and technical services, Financial services, and selected Public administration and homeland security related services, and selected Administrative services. Knowledge-intensive services feature relatively large shares of jobs where the employees undertake complex tasks, problem-solving, learning new things on the job, and high levels of computer, internet and email use etc.
Knowledge-intensive services can be subdivided into two categories: (a) Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) providing knowledge-intensive support for the business processes of other organizations with a focus towards scientists, engineers, and other professional experts; and (b) Knowledge Intensive Consumer Services (KICS) delivering knowledge-intensive services targeted towards end-consumers. The KIBS sector has well documented linkages with services that facilitate innovation, while the KICS sector can be an intensive user of information technology solutions.
The survey is for companies in either category in the West Denver area (Lakewood, Golden).
