OLA Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism (EDIA) Committee Application - Year 2024-2025
Mission Statement
We recognize libraries serve a vast range of individuals with unique experiences and characteristics. We encourage an inclusive environment that promotes freedom of speech in conjunction with strong policies that protect patrons and library staff of all gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, race, sexual orientation, disability, income level, age and all other personal, social, cultural and economic perspectives.
Purpose
The OLA Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism (EDIA) Committee will guide and hold OLA individual and organization members accountable in the integration of diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracist into all aspects of the library work, spaces, services, collection and people.
Committee Member Expectations/Commitment
- Membership terms are limited with the option for renewal. The OLA EDIA Committee year runs from September to August. Plan, if possible, for a two-year term.
- Members are expected to commit at least five hours per month to the EDIA Committee.
- The committee currently meets twice a month, plus subcommittee meetings, and events.
- Day and time of meetings are set by the in-coming chair or co-chairs with the availability of their members.
- Attend EDIA Committee meetings and be prepared to engage.
- The committee work is volunteer work, so we appreciate your commitment to this hard work. Your well-being will be acknowledged and put first.
