Certain subgroups of patients experience avoidable disparities in access to specialized cancer treatment and discrepancies in clinical outcomes (including higher mortality rates) following treatment. The risk of financial toxicity following a cancer diagnosis is also not equally distributed. Age, insurance coverage, marital status, race, geographic location, income, education, and comorbidities all contribute to the likelihood of a patient with a cancer diagnosis experiencing disparities in care access, costs, and outcomes.

Financial toxicity and avoidable disparities in oncology care and research also have the potential to be disintermediated by digital innovation. The goal of this project is to advance the development and implementation of digital solutions that promote equity in care access, cost, and outcomes by integrating care and research and advancing precision oncology care for all.
