Aikiken. The focus will be kumitachi from basic to flowing to variations.
In Aikido many types of atemi (strikes) are employed but are seldom taught in their own right the way the suburi are taught for ken and Jo before partner work. The basic atemi will be taught with drills to develop them relating them to weapons work. The dynamics involved in developing power for both are the same.
Jiyu waza is a wide area of practice which presupposes a solid technical basis. Sensitivity to timing and distance (ma-ai) good tai sabaki (body movement) and an engagement with the opponent which includes a non forceful connection and destabilisation (kuzushi) will be explored with weapons, atemi exercises and empty handed technique.
The last session will include a Q&A to query and clarify any aspects of the material covered in the seminar.
