There is currently no data on what it is like to work at different astronomy departments/institutions beyond word-of-mouth. The idea proposed here is to collect quantifiable data on a number of issues at departments/institutions, such as issues relating to the work atmosphere, mentoring, bullying and harassment, and so on.
The idea follows from the fact that quantifiable data exists for many other aspects of modern life, such as hotels/restaurants, travel destinations, and even university professors. This quantifiable data then creates accountability and encourages improvements. While employee satisfaction has never really been something that research departments/institutions have had to worry about, we can change this.
The target population for the survey is any researcher at a university or research institution who is engaged in work related to Astronomy and Astrophysics.
All responses will be anonymous.
