Terms of Service/Instructions
I have discussed and reviewed my wishes for placenta encapsulation. After this discussion and review the parties agree as follows:
I. Placenta Encapsulation Description
Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the mother’s placenta after the birth of her baby(ies) (by separating the membranes and umbilical cord from the placenta and rinsing and draining maternal and fetal blood) and dehydrating it to then be ground and placed into capsules for the mother to ingest as she sees fit. The ingestion of the placenta is known as “placentophagy.”The purpose of placentophagy by the mother is to reintroduce the beneficial vitamins, minerals,hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to her body following labor and birth to help restore amore balanced body function, prevent “baby blues” and the more serious postpartum depression,increase breast-milk production, shorten healing time, increase maternal energy levels, andprovide an over-all feeling of wellness to aid in the transition between pregnancy and the earlypostpartum period in the woman who has just given birth.
We use the Traditional Chinese Medicine Method:
Placenta Capsules are made from your placenta with no added ingredients
The placenta is steamed with lemon, ginger and green chilli according to TCM recipes
The placenta is dehydrated using a food dehydrator or oven for 8-10 hours until dry
The dried placenta is ground into a powder and put into empty vegetable capsules

Main Line Doulas is not a pharmacy, pharmaceutical representative, holistic practitioner, herbalist, or medical doctor. Benefits of placentophagy are supported by ongoing research but have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Placentophagy, (as it pertains to this contract agreement, is for natural nutritional supplementation and is intended solely for ingestion by the mother who has birthed the placenta(s) and not for her family members, friends, or other individuals), is a natural nutritional supplement and as such cannot be guaranteed to produce specific results.
III. Responsibilities
1. The family agrees to contact us shortly after baby is born.
2. The family agrees to save placenta in a clean plastic container and refrigerate it right away to preserve it. You must make sure there are NO CHEMICALS put on the placenta at the place of birth.
3. The family will bring the placenta home right away and place in the refrigerator.
4. Once MLD has been contacted, we will discuss the best time to come over to begin the two day process.
5. It is the clients responsibility to inform us of any blood borne illness that we could become infected with through contact with your or your babies blood or bodily fluids.
IV. Fees for Services
The full fee for placenta encapsulation is $350 or $325 if used in conjunction with birth or postpartum services. Send payment to Main Line Doulas, 409 Merion Place Merion Station PA 19066
Should the mother or husband/partner fail to notify us of the baby’s birth, the full fee will be retained by Main Line Doulas.
If there is a pathology of the placenta and the hospital does not release for that reason, you will receive a full refund minus $50
The full fee will be refunded if we are unable to provide services within 1 week of baby’s birth.
