Registration - Wet Plate Collodion Process

We’re excited to have you join us at Podd Labs for a two-day, hands-on workshop exploring one of the earliest photographic image-making processes.

The wet plate collodion process is a 19th-century photographic technique where images are made on glass or metal plates. Each plate is coated, exposed, and developed by hand while still wet, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind images.

You will learn to

  • An introduction to the wet plate collodion process and its historical context
  • Exposure techniques using large format cameras
  • Understanding materials, chemistry, and safety practices
  • How to prepare and coat plates with collodion
  • Sensitising plates using silver nitrate
  • Developing and fixing plates while wet
  • Understanding ambrotypes and tintypes
  • Care and archiving of wet plate images

To note:
  • This is a two-day workshop (Timing : 10:00 to 17:00)
  • All materials will be provided. 
  • We would not be providing food and accommodation for the participants. 

Mentors:

Ashin K explores Analogue and Alternative photographic practices, utilising them to convey nuanced narratives about land as both a physical space and a site of social, cultural, and political significance. His work focuses on the intricate relationship between land and it's associated politics, delving deep into the complexities of how land is perceived, used, and contested. Ashin K has completed his Master’s degree in Photography Design from the National Institute of Design. 

Anjana Dev is a visual artist based in India, who works primarily in photography, photo text, and video. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in exploring the intersections of gender, space, and identity. Born in Kerala, Anjana draws from her cultural background and personal experiences. Her work reflects an investigation into the ways in which gender and identity are shaped by and interact with physical and cultural spaces. She is an M.des graduate in Photography Design from the National Institute of Design.
