Eligibility

Admission to the BCNM Designated Emphasis (DE) is highly selective and limited to Ph.D. candidates with research interests closely related to New Media. Interested students should apply for the DE as early in their programs as possible. Students are required by Graduate Division to add the DE before their Ph.D. qualifying examinations and therefore should apply to the DE at least two semesters before their qualifying exams.

Requirements

This form must be completed and the following documents emailed to info.bcnm@berkeley.edu for your application to be considered complete:

1. Letter of intent summarizing your research interests and background in New Media
2. Curriculum vitae
3. Letter of recommendation from UC Berkeley faculty advisor
4. Graduate Petition for Change of Major or Degree Goal (available in your home department or from the following web site: http://registrar.berkeley.edu/GeneralInfo/elecforms.html)
5. Course Requirements Worksheet
6. Unofficial Transcript

Deadline

Applications are considered twice a year: November 1 and March 1. Students should plan to apply to the DE at least two semesters prior to their Ph.D. qualifying exams.
