January 2019 Natural Mystery
It's still snow season here in Minnesota, at least according to the calendar, so this month's Natural Mystery is another track in the snow. This photo was taken at Cedar Creek, close to the Twin Cities. The setting was a mixture of marsh and lowland deciduous forest--in the middle of prime red-headed woodpecker habitat. The question is "who?"
An ideal answer will identify the animal to species, explain how you arrived at your answer, and explain how you eliminated other candidates and possibilities. It is, after all, a raccoon until proven otherwise. Your explanations will help others benefit from your process as you puzzle through this.
