The Bring Your Own Bag Ordinance in Cambridge that takes effect April 1, 2016 bans the use of conventional plastic bags and sets more environmentally friendly standards for check out bags with handles that businesses use at point of sale. Businesses will be required to charge consumers a 10 cent fee for any bag provided at the checkout and identify this as the “Checkout Bag Charge” on the receipt. This charge shall be retained by the business.

SBN is considering buying bags in bulk in order to help business owners reduce their costs of switching to more environmentally friendly bags.

Recyclable Paper Bag that is 100% recyclable & contains at least 40% post-consumer recycled content & displays the words 'Recyclable' & 'made from 40% post-consumer recycled content' in a visible manner on the outside of the bag.

Reusable Bag - a bag with handles designed for multiple reuse & is either polyester, polypropylene, cotton or other durable material, or durable plastic that is at least 3.0 millimeters in thickness with the words '3.0 mm' printed on the bag.

Compostable Plastic Bag that meets ASTMD6400 standards and are capable of undergoing biological decomposition in a compost site with the words 'Compostable' and 'ASTMD6400' printed on the bag .
