My students are learning how to write short stories. We're starting with the first lines and looking at what makes a good hook. We would appreciate if you gave us feedback on our writing.

The strange irregular, metallic object stood out from the rest of the room, and any who entered were strangely drawn by its presence to gaze upon it.
I look away and back at the object but when I look back, something is different, it pierced me right in the heart when I noticed it.
It wasn't just a mystery to me.
It was late afternoon. I was walking past the Big Ben and the London Eye when I saw a mysterious car pull out of my drive way. It left a package at my door it was for me from Aunt Jen. "Who is Aunt Jen?" I said to myself.
I never thought in a million years I could call this mine.
The box sat there, laying motionless, on the cold wooden floor above the main floor.
I wonder what this gift is and who this person is with the same last name as me.
His father had completed this mission twenty years ago, but now it is twenty times tougher.
"Thanks?..."
I was resting, when "it" arrived.
What would you do if your special delivery started talking, well I ran.
I spent my last minutes waiting.
It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
Matthew screamed, "You can talk!"
I was terrified and mad when our house went into a mysterious black and gold portal.
"What is this?"
The torture was unbearable. The waiting.
This woman slowly came up to me, walking without touching the ground and handed me... it.
I was sitting at home alone when the doorbell rang. I thought to myself, "Who could be here at 1:00 am?"
Up in the attic is where it hid.
"Who are you?"
Worried, very worried to find out where this thing came from.
An old lady handed me a blurred object and when I got close to see what it was I realized I was daydreaming.
