Learn the skills and techniques to create lightweight giant puppets! Your new skills can then be used to help your group to create a giant puppet to join the Handmade Parade in October!
Parade organizer and puppet designer, Mark Donley will demonstrate working with cardboard, paper mache' and constructing lightweight giant puppets using reed, bamboo and fabric.
Mark’s sense of costuming and making wild creations began with Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans in the late 70’s. As a hands on participant in art parade krewes such as The Contemporary Art’s Centers Krewe of Clones, the Krewe of Kosmic Debris and the Pair-A-Dice Tumblers. More recently, Mark participated in workshops hosted by Nana Projects at the Towson University Center for the Arts in Baltimore. There he was able to collaborate and learn new skills with other parade and theater organizers including Spiral Q Puppet Theater from Philadelphia, and Macnas from Galway, Ireland.
Explore your creative potential! Bring your idea of Metamorphosis on the Eno River that you would like to create. This workshop is free to those intending to participate in the Handmade Parade. We ask only that you commit to lead others with the knowledge you have gained so that they too can make a "Giant creature of the Eno River" to march with in the Hillsborough Handmade Parade Saturday, October 17, 2009.
