32º East | Artist In Residence Application Politics of Return, 2018
Deadline: Dec 1st, 2017

Thank you for applying for our unique 'Politics of Return' residency, a join residency program offered by 32º East, London School of Economics, and Political Science's Firoz Lalji Centre for Africa.

We invite artists to work around the issues of displacement and return between Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The selected artists will work alongside curator Kara Blackmore and the African Youth Initiative Network to create conversation pieces that speak to the LSE research project 'The Politics of Return' and engage with refugee issues within Kampala. The outcomes of this unique residency will be displayed in Gulu, northern Uganda, as well as be submitted for consideration for 32° East's public art festival KLA ART ‘18. In the spirit of trial and innovation we hope that this residency will make space for 32 to develop a sponsored 'residency of social practice'. Follow the progress on the LSE Africa Blog and our Facebook page, @32DegreesEast.

This is a research embedded residency and artists are expected to work in conversation with existing research as well as develop their own body of research. Priority is given to artists who have met challenges in their practice due to living in conditions of displacement or ongoing violence.
