The Forests of Maine Teachers' Tours are an opportunity for Maine educators to gain a holistic understanding of our state's forest resources, from ecology and tree growth to harvesting and processing of wood products, and how these processes impact local communities.
During the Tour, you will:
- Engage in Project Learning Tree standards-aligned curriculum and activities
- Visit forests, harvests, and forest products manufacturers
- Learn from professionals working in the sector
- Develop innovative ideas for bringing the forest to the classroom or the classroom to the forest.
The goal is to prepare educators to share this knowledge with their students and inspire the next generation of Maine's forest stewards.
2024 Tour Options
We will host two sessions of this year's Forests of Maine Teachers' Tour; please indicate below which you prefer (or if you are available for either).
- Session 1: Fort Kent - July 9-12
- Session 2: Poland Spring - July 23-26
Lodging, meals, and transportation to tour stops are provided during the Tour.
Application & Registration Process
- The priority application deadline is April 15.
- Applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.
- Applicants not initially selected will be placed on a wait list and notified if space becomes available.
Upon Acceptance,
- You will be sent a registration form to complete the registration process
- A $200 registration fee is required to hold your spot
Participants are eligible to receive a $200 stipend if they demonstrate application of lessons learned on the Tour with students within 12 months of attending a tour.
