Iowa Writing Project: Level I Institute (2026-2027)
Please join us for the Iowa Writing Project's Level I Institute, the foundational course offering on which all of our other programming rests.

Designed for K–College practicing educators in any discipline, IWP focuses on teaching writing and using writing to enhance learning across disciplines. During this experiential opportunity, you will dig into professional literature, participate in professional discourse, construct knowledge through collaborative conversations, think reflectively about your classroom practices and beliefs, and design new learning opportunities for your students. In addition, we'll forge a writing community by writing for ourselves, reflecting upon our pieces and those of others, and sharing our own writing with the group. Both of these portions of the course will allow us to find ways to advocate for ourselves as the highly-qualified professionals we are.

Some details:
    • Facilitators:  TBD

    • Dates: June 22-26, 2026; 5 Virtual Saturdays throughout the year TBD by the group; June 21-25, 2027

    • Location: Central Rivers Area Education Agency, 1521 Technology Parkway, Cedar Falls IA 50613

    • Times: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. everyday (tentatively)

    • Cost: IWP Registration Fee: $550

      • This covers instructor salaries and course fees (technology, materials, and facilities). It goes directly toward the infrastructure of Iowa Writing Project. ($150 of this fee is refundable through June 2. After that, no refunds will be given.)

    • Optional Cost: Course Credit

      • If you wish to take this course for 3 licensure renewal/graduate credits, you will have the opportunity to do so by registering for this course through Iowa AEA statewide professional learning system on the first day of class.

      • Here's an overview of what those expenses will look like: $75/credit participant fee in addition to licensure renewal at $50/credit or graduate credit at $140/credit. It’s based on this licensure renewal/graduate credit fee structure that the statewide AEA system adopted for the 2024-2025 year.

      • Here’s the breakdown of total costs per credit option:

Licensure Renewal: Participant Fee $75 x 3 = $225 + Per Credit Fee 50 x 3 = $150
TOTAL COST: $375 AEA Credit + $550 IWP Registration = $925

Graduate Credit: Participant Fee $75 x 3 = $225 + Per Credit Fee 140 x 3 = $420
                                    TOTAL COST: $645 AEA Credit + $550 IWP Registration = $1,195
