Chickadee Award Committee Application

The Chickadee Award Committee is currently accepting applications for one position on the committee. We are looking for a committee member who currently works with children in a school or public library. (Ex: librarian, classroom teacher, literacy specialist) Applicants should have a knowledge of children’s literature and a passion for literacy.

The Chickadee committee meets a minimum of four times per year.
October: Weekday or Saturday meeting 4-6 p.m. or 9:30-11:30
Jan. or Feb.: Saturday meeting 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
March: Saturday meeting 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.
April or May: Weekday meeting 4-6 p.m.

In past years, meetings were held in Brunswick, Topsham and Augusta.
If you are interested and live in northern Maine, an exception would be made to attend two meetings electronically (in some form such as Skype). Members must attend 2 meetings in person in order to maintain their member status.

Committee Requirements:
*Has expertise in children’s literature and literacy.
*Is currently working with children in grades K-4.
*Is willing to participate on one or more sub-committees
*Is willing to travel to meetings in different parts of the state.
*Is prepared to read & review hundreds of picture books being considered each year.
*Has the ability and expertise to design curriculum pages with a literacy focus and understanding of CCSS.
*Has the technology skills required to complete committee work (ex: Google Drive, Google Docs, email, etc...).
*Responds to email and other forms of correspondence in a timely manner.

No published children's book author, editor, publisher, or publicist may be a member of the committee.

Application is due by 9 a.m. on May 15, 2017.
