2024 Crab Team Monitor Interest Form
We're excited about your interest in joining Crab Team's Monitoring Network

Please share a bit about your location, background, and availability in this form so we can match monitors to sites that will work best.

Note: We are filling new monitor need on a rolling basis this Spring. Take a look at our 2024 recruitment map to see if we still have need in your area.

You can expect to hear back from us before March 1 with whether we have space for you to join a site in your region this year or if we'll have to look ahead to the 2025 season together.

****** With Trainings beginning this week, we are no longer able to bring new monitors into the network for the upcoming 2024 Season ******

This form is no longer being actively monitored.

Please send us an email (crabteam@uw.edu) to express interest in participating in future seasons or in our other monitoring program "Molt Search" (wsg.washington.edu/moltsearch).
Some more information about Crab Team's Monitoring Network:
Timing:
  • Crab Team sites are monitored April-September, in visits on two consecutive days each month
  • Monitors assigned to a site collaborate to decide what days they'll meet to monitor that month
  • All Crab Team monitors are expected to commit to try to attend 9 out of the 12 trapping days
  • Time at the site varies by team and the month's catch, but typically varies from 30min-3hr/visit.
Teams:
  • Sites are monitored by set teams of 2-6 monitors, with new folks assigned as space opens
  • Monitors from each team volunteer into roles of data submitter, "captain" (point-of-contact), and keeper of the bait & gear that gets distributed at annual "refresher" trainings for returning monitors.
How we recruit:
  • New monitors are assigned directly to a site based on accessibility & proximity, returning site roster size, and timing constraints
  • Given the demands of Crab Team training, we only invite folks to attend training once we've found a site to match them to
Other opportunities:
If this year's training timing doesn't work for you, if the physical or timing constraints of the monitoring network don't work for you, if we can't match you with a site, or if you just want MORE...
