Why do you want to become a member of the Junior League of Flint?

I have been involved in community service most of my life. In high school I was in the Service Club of Milwaukee, and every year from 9-12 grade I completed more than 750 volunteer hours, culminating in the graduation reception my freshman year in college.

Throughout college I worked in soup kitchens, battered women's shelters and various educational programs in Massachusetts (areas of Springfield and Holyoke MA).

After I graduated from College, I was Active in the Junior League of Baltimore for 2 years, and my mother (Blythe Bathrick) was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Milwaukee Wisconsin and Houston, TX until she passed about 9 years ago.

I work as a Major Gifts Officer at Michigan Humane, the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the state. I have been involved in the metro Detroit area for the last 1.5 years building relationships with people and their animals, but I want to make a difference in Flint and our local communities in Genesee County.

List any organizations you are involved in or have been a member (ex. community, civic, professional, social, etc.)

I am a current member of Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in metro Detroit and in Mid-Michigan, a networking group of fundraisers across the state. I am also a business owner, my husband and I own Auto Lab of Fenton, a full-service Auto repair business in Fenton. I also am a member of the Fenton-Linden Chamber of Commerce and Networking Now, a collection of business owners in Fenton and the surrounding communities.

Socially, I am active with both the University of Wisconsin Alumni Club in Michigan, and Mount Holyoke College Alumnae Club in Michigan. I'm not socially involved in local organizations yet, mainly due to having no time for the last few years when opening and operating a business. This is one reason why I want to join the Flint Junior League. I love to sing, travel, go on spontaneous outings, have a passion for rescuing animals (currently two rescue black labs), want to develop strong friendships with women in the area, and believe in strengthening opportunities for underrepresented populations in work and access through empowerment and mentoring.

I have been an active Class Agent for Mount Holyoke College since 1991, my alma mater, and also for University of Wisconsin-Madison, my graduate school, since 1996.
