Thank you for your interest in Oakland Planning and Development Corporation’s (OPDC) School 2 Career Program (S2C). We are currently recruiting for our 2017-2018 career exploration program. Students living in the 15213 and 15219 zip codes who meet the low-income eligibility requirements will receive priority during the application process. Students must attend at traditional Pittsburgh public high school, private or charter school. This year’s program will consist of career & job development training, tutoring in multiple academic subjects, job shadow opportunities, mentored work, and volunteer experiences. Students who meet program requirements earn a stipend.
The program works by assisting our youth in making successful career and academic choices. The mission of the School 2 Career Program is to ensure at-risk students from Pittsburgh’s urban core have the support to graduate from high school prepared to pursue a career and post-secondary education. We accomplish this goal through collaboration with the family, the school, employers, and the community. We provide one-on-one mentoring, job development and career exploration, while teaching the students important virtues such as dependability, accountability, and responsibility.
S2C is not a summer job; it is a minimum of a one-year commitment from the student and the family.
-Individualized career development, tutoring and computer technology training with the student for 42 weeks throughout the school year
-Paid job shadowing and mentored work opportunities with UPMC and other employers
We will notify all applicants of a decision within one week of reviewing your application. Please review the attached Application Checklist for eligibility criteria and required paperwork.
