I UNDERSTAND THAT THE UNIKORN TEAM IS NOT ON CALL 24-7. We ask that you be kind when reaching out for assistance and that you realize that we may need up to 48 hours to respond to all non-emergencies. True emergencies should be directed to your local animal control office. The Unikorn team is willing to assist in any way we can, but please understand that we are not veterinarians. We may need to seek guidance from outside sources before we will be able to assist you. If you have been given your Unikorn Rep's cell phone number, please be mindful that our team is all volunteer.
I UNDERSTAND THAT UNIKORN HAS LIMITED HISTORY ON THIS DOG. While we do our best to perform behavioral assessments in the shelter, we cannot guarantee anything about an animal's behavior. Most dogs come into the shelter as strays and have dealt with some type of abuse, neglect or trauma. Owner releases often come in with limited information and it is not guaranteed to be accurate. You should exercise extreme caution when introducing your dog to new people and animals and should be especially careful around children. We recommend having an area in the home that can be used to restrict the dog's access to the rest of the house, if needed. We also recommend using a crate when leaving the house to protect the dog and your home. *
I UNDERSTAND THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT PERIOD. Like bringing any living being into your home, a dog will take time to adjust to your environment and routine. Please be prepared to be patient.  We ask that you give the dog several weeks to settle in. If you are having issues, you cannot address alone, please reach out to us to see how we may be able to assist. *
I UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL BE FOSTERING THIS DOG UNTIL A FOREVER HOME IS FOUND. This process could take days, weeks or months. If your circumstances change or an issue arises that you feel you cannot resolve, please know that we cannot take the animal back into the shelter as we are a foster-based rescue. If you need us to find a new home for the dog, you must give us at least 1-2 weeks to find a suitable placement. If it is an emergency, (bite, serious injury, personal tragedy), we can work with you to place the dog in a temporary placement but again, this is only under an emergency situation. *
I WILL BE CAREFUL WITH MY PET AROUND CHILDREN, OTHER DOGS & CATS, SMALL ANIMALS. You have been given any behavioral notes our team has made and are instructed to keep the animal secured on a leash at all times when outside or when meeting new people and animals to maintain its safety and the safety of others. You understand that dogs are more likely to bite or act out when not handled properly. This includes putting your face in their face, allowing them on your furniture (including in your bed), allowing them to jump, allowing them off-leash in open space and allowing them to meet other animals without following safe guidelines. You also understand that we can never make any guarantee that a dog will not bite, even if they have no prior bite history. *
I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT ANY DOG, INCLUDING THIS ONE, MAY DO THE FOLLOWING: Bark, Jump on people, Be mouthy when trying to play, Pee/Poop in the house, Eat/destroy pillows & other  items, Chase small animals, Jump fences, Slip out of its collar or harness, Pull on its leash when being walked, Bite (even if it has no bite history) *
I UNDERSTAND WHAT TO DO IF I WISH TO ADOPT MY FOSTER DOG. We love foster fails, but please know that usually we begin promoting a dog for adoption about 1-2 weeks after the dog is placed in a foster home. It is likely that the dog will receive applications while in your care and we do need to consider those, along with your own interest, when determining the best long term placement for the animal. *
I UNDERSTAND THAT IF I CHOOSE TO ADOPT THIS DOG, I WILL BE PAYING A FEE. *
If an issue arises, or if I am unable to care for this dog for any reason, this is my plan: *
By entering my signature below, I am confirming that I have read and understand each section, that I have had ample time to ask questions and that I am willingly entering into this agreement to foster this animal. *
